  • Artsiom Liashanau explains how AI is changing the priorities of banks’ digital transformation

    Over the past decade, financial institutions have invested enormous resources in digital transformation: new channels, new technologies, new customer engagement tools. Customer data is now more abundant than ever. But, as Artsiom Liashanau notes, most banks and credit unions still struggle to translate this data into action.

    More data doesn’t mean more value.

    Many financial institutions today are sitting on a vast array of customer data, but a chasm still exists between accumulating information and making concrete decisions based on it, says Artsiom Liashanau.

    He cites an argument that explains this gap structurally, rather than as a lag in individual banks:

    • The growth of data volumes has long outpaced the growth of operational processing capabilities;
    • Decisions about the next step for a client are still largely made manually by analysts or marketers, rather than by a real-time system;

    While the cycle is measured in days or weeks, the window for a client to respond to an offer is often already closing.

    That’s why the winner isn’t the one who has collected more data, but the one who has learned to make better decisions faster than the competition. This is the difference between possessing information and the ability to act on it, the expert emphasizes.

    Why the conversation about AI in banks is often misplaced

    Artsiom Liashanau points out that much of the current discussion about artificial intelligence in the financial sector isn’t focusing on its most valuable application.

    The biggest opportunity artificial intelligence (AI) offers financial institutions isn’t content generation or the automation of routine processes. It’s what can be called decision intelligence, he explains.

    He justifies this priority with a specific ROI logic:

    • Automating routine operations and text generation reduce costs but do not create new revenue. They do what the bank already does faster;
    • Decisions made more accurately and ahead of competitors, for example, offering a product when the customer is truly ready to consider it, directly impact conversion and retention;
    • The value of AI here is measured not by the number of automated tasks, but by the number of correct decisions made before the customer switches to another bank.

    Properly built AI does not replace the expertise of bank employees, but rather enhances it. It expands on what an analyst or manager physically cannot track manually for each client, adds Artsiom Liashanau.

    Why behavioral data is more important than demographics

    One of the key topics the expert raises is the shift in approach to customer segmentation.

    For decades, financial marketers relied primarily on demographic segmentation: age, income, family composition, geography. These are still important inputs, but they only tell part of the story.

    Imagine if a bank could recognize signs of financial stress in a client even before they seek help. Or notice a change in their life stage and proactively offer relevant financial advice.

    This is no longer just personalization, it’s understanding the client across their entire client base, says Artsiom Liashanau.

    Key takeaway for banks

    The task of banks and credit unions isn’t to become more like tech companies. The task is to use technology to enhance what has always been their strength: building trusting relationships with clients.

    The practical conclusion from this logic, according to him, boils down to a specific management priority:

    • Invest not so much in the volume of collected data, but in the speed and accuracy of turning it into a solution tailored to the specific client;
    • Embed analytical models into real operational processes as employee interfaces, automatic triggers, and communication scripts, rather than leaving them as separate reports;
    • Parallel to the implementation of AI, build transparent control mechanisms and explainability of decisions to ensure speed is not achieved at the expense of customer trust.

    Technology is a tool. The decision on how to use it in the client’s best interests remains a management issue, not a technical one, concludes Artsiom Liashanau.

  • Fintech expert Artem Lyashanov on the stablecoin strategy of Visa and Mastercard. Why payment giants are choosing a multi-network approach

    Artem Lyashanov explains why major payment companies are joining multiple stablecoin initiatives instead of focusing on a single network.

    While stablecoin projects compete to serve digital payments for businesses and consumers, the largest card networks have chosen to join several initiatives simultaneously. Artem Lyashanov, a Ukrainian fintech entrepreneur, investor, and payment system expert, examines the logic behind this strategy.

    Why card networks are choosing multiple stablecoin alliances

    Over the past two months, the largest card networks have announced their participation in several competing stablecoin initiatives.

    Card networks are companies that manage the global infrastructure for processing bank card payments. The most well-known examples are Visa and Mastercard (as well as American Express, Discover, and China’s UnionPay).

    • One aims to create a blockchain infrastructure for financial markets and settlements between autonomous AI agents;
    • The other aims to build an open, low-cost stablecoin network in collaboration with a number of large tech and financial companies.

    Both alliances are competing to become the foundational settlement layer for businesses and consumers.

    What we’re seeing is a classic hedging strategy in an environment where the market hasn’t yet determined a winner, comments Artem Lyashanov. Companies of this scale can’t afford to stake their entire business on a single protocol or network that might fail to achieve critical mass.

    A hedging strategy is an approach in which a company or investor simultaneously invests in several different, often competing, options to reduce the risk that a single bet will prove to be a losing one.

    He points out that the official statements of the participants themselves confirm this logic. During a web presentation, McInerney, the top management of one card network, publicly stated that they do not plan to pick winners among stablecoins, but see their role as providing clients with secure access to any infrastructure that ultimately achieves mass adoption.

    How Stablecoin Regulation Accelerated Partnership Growth

    The accelerated growth of stablecoin initiatives coincided with the passage of a law in the US that created the first federal regulatory framework specifically for payment stablecoins.

    The emergence of a clear legislative status has dramatically reduced regulatory uncertainty for large institutional players. Previously, many companies refrained from large-scale investments in this area precisely because of the lack of clear rules of the game, explains Artem Lyashanov.

    According to his observation, after the law’s adoption, the number of such partnerships grew significantly faster than the previous year:

    • Regulatory certainty reduced the legal risk for card networks;
    • Large technology and financial companies began to form consortiums to jointly develop standards for the new infrastructure.

    In essence, regulation didn’t so much create demand for stablecoins as remove the main obstacle for those already prepared to invest.

    A Strategy Above Stablecoins. What Are the Benefits

    One independent market analyst previously described the position of the largest card network as a stablecoin of stablecoins, an infrastructure that doesn’t compete with individual stablecoin issuers, but rather sits above them, connecting different networks.

    This is a winning position precisely because the number of stablecoins on the market continues to grow, and the issue of interoperability between them is becoming increasingly pressing. A company that can connect various stablecoin networks to the existing global payment infrastructure monetizes not a specific token, but the very fact of market fragmentation, notes Artem Lyashanov.

    He adds that card operators’ cross-border settlement networks give them an additional advantage:

    Large card networks already have a well-established international settlement infrastructure. Integrating stablecoins into this infrastructure requires far less capital investment than any new player would have to undertake to build a comparable network from scratch, he says.

    What does the card network strategy mean for banks and fintechs

    For banks and fintechs that are just developing their stablecoin strategy, there is a practical lesson here, concludes Artem Lyashanov. Relying on a single stablecoin partner in the current market phase carries the risk of becoming locked into a network that will subsequently lose out in the competition for liquidity and user trust.

    In his opinion, a more sustainable approach is to build integrations so that the company’s infrastructure remains compatible with multiple stablecoin networks, rather than being architecturally tied to a single one.

    The stablecoin market has not yet consolidated, meaning flexibility is now more important than loyalty to a specific protocol, the expert concludes.

    Раньше маршрут платежа, проверка на соответствие санкционным спискам и оценка риска мошенничества обрабатывались как отдельные, слабо связанные этапы. Сейчас ИИ-система способна принимать эти решения практически одновременно, опираясь на общий контекст транзакции, поясняет он.

    Почему автономность ИИ требует нового уровня контроля

    По мере того как агентный ИИ становится всё более автономным, то есть способным самостоятельно инициировать и выполнять многоэтапные действия без прямого участия человека, вопрос доверия, безопасности и регуляторного надзора становится критически важным, отмечает Артем Ляшанов.

    Он выделяет конкретное операционное противоречие, с которым сталкиваются банки:

    • ИИ-агент ускоряет обработку платежа именно за счёт минимизации ручного вмешательства;
    • Но платежная инфраструктура работает в жестко регулируемой среде, где каждое решение должно быть объяснимым и проверяемым;
    • Чем выше автономность системы, тем сложнее обеспечить полную прослеживаемость каждого шага.

    Банк не может просто довериться результату, ему нужно понимать, как система пришла к этому решению, особенно если речь идет об отклонении платежа или срабатывании антифрод-фильтра, добавляет эксперт.

    Роль токенизированных денег и новых платёжных стандартов

    Токенизированные деньги (tokenised money) это представление денежной стоимости в виде цифрового токена на блокчейне или распределенном реестре, который можно передавать, отслеживать и программировать так же, как обычные данные, но при этом он остаётся привязан к реальной стоимости, валюте, депозиту или активу.

    Артем Ляшанов обращает внимание, что трансформация трансграничных платежей происходит не изолированно, а на фоне параллельного развития нескольких смежных технологий, стейблкоинов, цифровых валют центральных банков и единого стандарта финансовых сообщений ISO 20022.

    Токенизированные деньги и защищённые платёжные рельсы способны снижать издержки на трение в транзакции и улучшать управление ликвидностью. Но их реальная ценность раскрывается только в связке с интеллектуальной автоматизацией, которая умеет выбирать оптимальный маршрут и инструмент расчета для конкретной транзакции, комментирует Артем Ляшанов.

    Он подчеркивает, что переход на единые стандарты сообщений играет здесь не менее важную роль, чем сами платежные инструменты:

    Без общего структурированного формата данных ИИ-системе попросту не с чем работать. Стандартизация данных это фундамент, на котором строится вся автоматизация принятия решений в платежах, поясняет он.

    Как устаревшая банковская инфраструктура адаптируется к новым требованиям

    Один из главных практических вопросов для отрасли, как банки с устаревшей инфраструктурой могут внедрять ИИ, одновременно соответствуя всё более сложному глобальному регулированию, говорит Артем Ляшанов.

    По его оценке, здесь нет универсального решения:

    • Часть банков выбирает поэтапную модернизацию отдельных модулей, сначала комплаенс и антифрод, затем маршрутизация;
    • Часть подключает ИИ-слой поверх существующей инфраструктуры через специализированных провайдеров, не переписывая ядро системы полностью;
    • В любом случае процесс требует параллельного пересмотра внутренних процедур управления рисками, а не только замены технологии.

    Модернизация инфраструктуры без пересмотра моделей контроля создаёт иллюзию прогресса, но не решает базовую проблему, банк просто быстрее делает то же самое, а не делает это иначе и безопаснее, резюмирует Артем Ляшанов.

  • Артем Ляшанов: Як ШІ-інвестиції перетворюються на макроекономічний фактор

    Штучний інтелект (ШІ) дедалі очевидніше виходить за межі суто технологічної теми, як обсяг капіталу, що спрямовується в ШІ-інфраструктуру, вже впливає на інфляцію та глобальні ринки капіталу. Артем Ляшанов розповів про те, що ці процеси означають для фінансового сектору.

    Наскільки великі зараз інвестиції в ШІ-інфраструктуру?

    Масштаб капіталу, який зараз спрямовується в чипи, дата-центри, енергетику та спеціалізовані кадри, вже формує самопідсилюваний цикл попиту на напівпровідники, хмарні потужності й електроенергію одночасно, каже Артем Ляшанов.

    За наявними оцінками, орієнтир такий:

    • Протягом 2025 року провідні технологічні компанії сукупно спрямували приблизно 300 млрд доларів на розвиток ШІ-інфраструктури;
    • На 2026 рік прогнозовані капітальні видатки найбільших гіпермасштабувальників сягають близько 720 млрд доларів;
    • Окремі провідні постачальники хмарних послуг фіксують зростання ШІ-виручки понад 120% рік до року.

    «За моєю оцінкою, це вже не історія про окремі технологічні компанії це історія про новий макроекономічний цикл, який зачіпає постачальників чипів, енергетичні ринки і, зрештою, споживчі ціни», додає Артем Ляшанов.

    Чому ШІ-бум уже позначається на інфляції

    Хвиля інвестицій уже проходить крізь інфляційні показники, і це видно не тільки в технологічному сегменті. Ключові цифри:

    • Ціни на комп’ютерне програмне забезпечення й аксесуари зросли майже на 14% за 12 місяців, розвернувши багаторічний спад;
    • Оптові ціни на електронні компоненти піднялися на 28% за той самий період;
    • Імпорт комп’ютерів у США більш ніж подвоївся в першому кварталі 2026 року, сягнувши близько 93 млрд доларів;
    • Імпорт напівпровідників зріс на 40%, а комп’ютерних аксесуарів на 37% рік до року.

    Наскільки можна судити з цих цифр, поточна фаза ШІ-буму є однозначно проінфляційною. Питання не в тому, чи є тиск на ціни, а в тому, як довго він триватиме.

    Чи стане ШІ дезінфляційним фактором у майбутньому

    Є й протилежний сценарій. З часом ШІ може стати дезінфляційним чинником, за рахунок автоматизації та зростання продуктивності, які компенсують витрати на працю й капітал. Але цей перехід буде послідовним, а не миттєвим, пояснює Артем Ляшанов.

    Він звертає увагу, що це створює складне завдання для центральних банків:

    • Короткостроково доводиться реагувати на проінфляційний тиск від капітальних витрат і попиту на компоненти;
    • Середньостроково потрібно враховувати потенційний дезінфляційний ефект від автоматизації;
    • Рішення щодо ставок ухвалюються в умовах, коли обидва ефекти накладаються один на одного.

    Це саме той випадок, коли монетарна політика має орієнтуватися не на миттєву картину, а на траєкторію, інакше є ризик або передчасно послабити політику, або надто довго стримувати економіку, яка вже змінює структуру, зазначає експерт.

    «Ймовірно, найголовніший висновок для фінтех- та інвестиційних компаній це те, що ШІ-цикл більше не можна розглядати ізольовано від макроекономіки. Він впливає на вартість імпорту, енергетичні витрати, інфляційні очікування і, відповідно, на рішення центробанків щодо ставок», резюмує Артем Ляшанов.
